The purposefully designed surface architecture of SmoothSilk®/SilkSurface® has been found to have improved biocompatibility, forming a healthy capsule, as compared to both traditional smooth, microtextured and macrotextured implants, and showed no formation of double capsules. This suggests a differential immune response than with the other surface implants.
Motiva® continues to accumulate a body of research on breast implant surfaces and the human immune response demonstrating that the chronic inflammatory complications associated with macrotextured implants far outweigh any of its potential benefits. Studies show that surface architecture is an influential parameter in controlling host immune reactions and fibrotic encapsulation.
This confirms our decision from day 1, never to produce aggressively textured implants, and to focus on the development of a novel, advanced smooth surface known as SmoothSilk®/SilkSurface®
